Evaluating Innovation Strategy and Capabilities in Energy-Focused Growth Equity

This work evaluates the innovation strategy, capabilities, and processes of an anonymized growth equity fund investing in critical supply chains supporting fusion energy and electrification technologies. Applying established innovation frameworks, including the 4Ps of innovation, the Innovation Value Chain, and the Gans and Stern ecosystem model, it assesses strengths in product and business model innovation alongside constraints related to scale, risk perception, and external dependency. Findings suggest that structured, iterative innovation processes and ecosystem alignment are critical for enabling first-mover investment strategies to scale while delivering long-term stakeholder and energy-transition value.
