Driving Change: Evaluating Diversity Targets Across the Russell 1000

ESG, Corporate Governance, & Workforce Analytics

This work analyzes diversity targets across 1,104 Russell 1000 companies to assess how large U.S. firms are translating DEI commitments into measurable outcomes. Using a structured dataset covering target types, diversity groups, timelines, and industry variation, it evaluates the prevalence, clarity, and ambition of race and gender targets. Findings reveal that approximately 80% of companies lack quantifiable diversity goals, while firms with time-bound, measurable targets demonstrate clearer accountability, highlighting the role of standardized metrics in advancing workforce equity and governance transparency.
