Why can't american companies commit to measurable diversity targets?

This work analyzes measurable diversity target implementation across 1,104 Russell 1000 companies (America’s largest public companies by market capitalization) in order to assess how large U.S. firms are translating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitments into measurable outcomes. Using a structured dataset covering diversity groups, implementation timelines, and industry variation, it evaluates the prevalence, clarity, and ambition of workforce diversification strategies. Findings reveal that approximately 80% of companies lack quantifiable diversity goals (2023), highlighting a systemic gap in long-term workforce accountability.
